Big Love Controversy
Big Love is a show on HBO done in very poor taste, weaving Mormon themes throughout the show. According to TV Guide, they are going to expose what they believe to be the sacred temple ceremonies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Judging from what they have done in the past, this is likely to be an inaccurate, apalling, crude portrayal of something that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints hold very dear and sacred. I for one am deeply offended.
These ordinances are sacred and should not be disgraced in such a way! It is rude and insensitive to portray something that is very sacred and parade it in front of people who do not understand it, mocking and making fun of it. It will probably be done in a most distasteful way, and probably be very inaccurate as to what actually happens inside sacred temples.
Many people are speaking of boycotting the actors, entertainment companies, and Satellite and Cable companies that support this kind of programming. The LDS church is leaving that up to the members to decide for themselves whether they will take such actions. I was inflamed and ready to take such action until I read the statement from The LDS Church that put it all into perspective.
