The Church: Mormon Beliefs

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, sometimes called the Mormon church, is a Christian church that stands apart from other churches. To understand The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you need to understand its origins.  Joseph Smith, a fourteen year old boy, went into the woods and prayed for an answer and saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in person.  He wasn’t out looking to start a religion.  In fact, he was ridiculed, threatened, cast out, and eventually killed for holding fast to his testimony that he had seen God and Jesus and been visited by angels.   This event changed the world.  He was instructed of God and angels and was shown an ancient record that he later translated into The Book of Mormon.   He said that he knew that God knew that he knew it and he could not deny it.  He feared God more than man and was true to the instructions and commands he had been given.

If you have ever read The Book of Mormon, you know that it is easier to believe that God inspired it to be written on plates of gold and buried in a hill, so that Joseph Smith could translate them through the power of God than that he could have written such a complicated book with so many parallels to the Bible and things that have been later discovered to be accurate by archealogists and researchers at such a young age with very little education.  I mean, after all, he was just a farm boy who could barely dictate a letter.  I have read The Book of Mormon and know that it is a true record of people who lived in America before Columbus came.  I know that it testifies of Jesus Christ and that it helps me in my life to become a better person and know my Savior in a more personal way.  I know that it had to be translated through the power of God. There is no other explanation that feels comfortable to my spirit.  The Holy Ghost has testified the truth of this book to me and it brings me comfort to read it.  It testifies that the Bible is true.  It is the record of a people who were lost to the world.  It helps people to know Jesus Christ.

Book of MormonAlthough The Book of Mormon was written long ago, it was written for people in our day. The prophets who wrote it were shown by God what the world would be like in the last days.  It is full of warnings, descriptions, and prophecies about our day.  It also shows the cycle of prosperity, pride, destruction, humility, and righteousness, back to prosperity.  I can’t even begin to describe the things I have learned by reading The Book of Mormon.  It has shaped my entire life more than any other book. I read The Book of Mormon along with The Bible.  Our family reads it every evening before having a family prayer.

If you want to feel God’s love for you personally and know your Savior, Jesus Christ in a more intimate way, get a free copy of The Book of Mormon and see for yourself what everyone is so excited about.  Read it and pray to know whether or not it is true.  You will get an answer if you follow these steps.
