I Love the Commandment to Have Food Storage
Yes, I love the commandment to have food storage. Our prophet, Thomas S. Monson has admonished us to be prepared and follow the commandments of prophets before him who also spoke for The Lord when they told us to store a year’s supply of food. A couple of summers ago, I took this counsel to heart and got our year’s supply of food for our family. We bought wheat in bags and put it in buckets, as well as oats, cornmeal, oil, salt, sugar, honey, beans, and pasta. We had a little dried milk, but it’s gone. I guess we didn’t have enough. With the recent decline in our economy, there have been many families who have had their homes foreclosed on and cannot afford food for their families. Our family would not have made it through the past year and a half without our food storage. I quit my job as a teacher when I decided to have a baby and stay home to take care of her. With our family budget, I needed to work to be able to survive. I took a job as an insurance sales person and barely made enough to keep us afloat. With the cut in income that we experienced, we relied heavily on the food we had stored to get us by. I’m hoping that things will turn around now that I have a different job with United First Financial, and am making more money, but even if it doesn’t, we have still got enough wheat and corn and oats and beans to get through another tough year. I can see the wisdom of the Lord in commanding us to prepare for these last days, when the economy is so fragile. My plan is to get our storage built back up to withstand whatever else is in our future. McMullin on Food Storage
