Southwestern Airlines Virus
This week, I was the victim of a terrible computer virus because I opened an e-mail that was supposedly from Southwestern Airlines. They claimed that my e-ticket was ready and that my credit card had been charged $960. They said the details of the transaction and the e-ticket were attached. My first thought was that if someone had used my e-mail account to buy a ticket, they could have found my credit card, too. I opened the attachment and my computer almost instantly shut down and restarted. It was obvious that I had gotten a virus and I was scared of the damage it could do. It shut down my anti-virus software and wouldn’t let me get another software downloaded. After several attempts, I was able to download different anti-virus software and detect and remove the virus. However, once I removed it, my computer crashed and wouldn’t start up. I tried to fix it, but ended up recovering the computer, and I lost all my files.
If I hadn’t stored my genealogy on the FamilySearch website, it would all be lost. I’m so glad to know that even though I can be a victim of the acts of a few devious souls, I don’t have to worry about it damaging my permanent record of my genealogy. Another good reason to submit your family history online. It’s harder to lose it if you have several copies in different places. The records submitted to FamilySearch are placed in a permanent vault inside Granite Mountain as well as on the internet and in several formats. I can’t think of anything safer. Thank goodness for the FamilySearch website.

These are not surprising my anymore, but thanks..
